Julia Roberts makes a bad choice

"Movies, actors and the bad choices they make."

This is the slogan for The Merryweather Jones Alliance, and we'd like to think that the lion's share of the stories we report on faithfully reflect it.

Occasionally, though, an especially juicy tibit comes along that doesn't just reflect the idea; it becomes it -- like John Travolta became Nicolas Cage in "Face/Off."

Julia Roberts --who doesn't appear in many movies these days, which only emphasizes the very bad taste of this appearance-- is producing and is strongly considering starring in "Happiness Sold Separately," a romance which follows the story of a woman whose world is crushed when she discovers her husband has had an affair with another woman.

That plot may, or, shockingly, may not ring a bell with Roberts, who expertly played the part of "the other in" in real life, when she had an affair with current husband Danny Moder, who at the time was a cameron man on one of her films and married to another woman.

Roberts, who, like many celebrities, understandably lives in a bubble (to avoid a world full of hurtful criticism), might possibly not be aware of the irony of her pursuit of this project, as a producer or as an actor. But it is certainly a text book definition of a bad choice-- that sometimes ugly subtance that this website cheerfully deals in, so we tip our hats to Mrs. Roberts.
